Introduction

This course introduces mathematical modelling. We use the equations of motion to find missing values for acceleration, velocity, distance or time in motion with connstant acceleration in a straight line (kinematics). We then consider the dynamics of particles introducing forces, friction and momentum. In the second half of the course we solve problems involving static particles, balancing forces and considering moments. The course finishes with a formal treatment of vectors.

Learners may find it illuminating to consider these topics alongside the more functional approach taken in the notes for Physics AS unit 2 where many of the same topics are repeated with a slightly different treatment.
